Trois-Rivières Race Report

by Rick Muzingo

Peter Hanson was back on the city streets showcasing the #12 Subaru BRZ TCA car in Partnership with Racing For Kids, Quantum Valley Investments and SVEC as the Sanders Motorsport team took on Tropical Storm Debbie for a wild weekend of competition, strategy, and podium finishes in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. Facing the floods during qualifying proved to be a testament to the Subaru platform as Peter washed his way up the grid.

The first race was set to take place Friday evening, but was postponed due to the weather. While race 1 was a great experience as the entire grid was starting from scratch on dry pavement which resulted in a P3, the real excitement took place during race 2 with epic battles across the grid resulting in a number of yellow flags. Peter used the final yellow as the perfect opportunity to showcase his experience, race craft and strategy. Being trapped between the leading cars of the quicker TCR class, Peter leaped in behind the leading TCR car allowing him to pass both of his TCA competitors putting him in the lead with only 4 laps remaining!

It was an intense battle from the restart and the TCR class did not shy away from barging through the TCA field resulting in the #95 Audi TCR making heavy contact with Peter’s #12 Subaru BRZ TCA. The impact caused Peter to initially lose positions, but he hung on to finish P2 on the podium. Even though the lead was taken away, Peter still came home with double podiums at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières weekend in Quebec! Next up is the season finale at the famous Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on August 30th – September 1st.
