Racing For Kids to the Hill Shifts Into High Gear for a Fully Charged Return to the Hill

by Rick Muzingo

The long awaited return of Racing For Kids to the Hill was all the more thrilling and enjoyable this year because of all the obstacles that needed to be overcome to bring it back for its 15th year!  Uncertainty over the pandemic, a fire in our building the week before – we had a lot to deal with – but once again the community pulled together and an amazing event unfolded!

For all that, Racing For Kids would like to thank our outstanding friends from the Hill Association, the City of Grosse Pointe Farms, the Grosse Pointe community, and our generous sponsors for the remarkable coming together that made this such a wonderful event.

Thanks go out to our steering committee members — chairs Tom Buhl and Ed Russell and members Greg Corbett, Dan Jensen, Bob Jewett and Dan LaLonde, who along with the Racing For Kids team of Pat Wright, Robbie Buhl, Debby Wright, Linda Finger, Amanda Akers, and Kathleen Conway meet regularly for a year planning all the various elements that add to the overall success of this event.

We are so grateful to our sponsors including our Reigning Champion Sponsor, Ascension St. John, our Winner’s Circle Sponsors, Crest Automotive Group, Peggy and Peter Kross, Henry Ford Health System, and Wells Fargo; our Grand Sponsors  — Northern Trust, Bill and Darrene Baer and Jim and Ann Nicholson.  Our Pole Position Sponsors: AME Automotive, Backer Landscaping,  Beaumont Hospital, Blaser Design Group, Bodman LLC, Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation, Deeplands Development, Grosse Pointe News, Highway Auto Parts, Legacy Wealth Management Group, Matilda Wilson Fund, Meridian Health Plan,  Metropolitan Baking Company, Diane and Richard Platt, Robinson Capital Management and Russell Development Company.

Additional thanks to our Front Row Sponsors: Sam and Alaine Bush, Flight Mold & Engineering Inc,  Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, The Hill Association,  Quality Inn Petoskey, Sherwin Williams and Wayne County Community College District; and our Finish Line Sponsors: Bolton Johnston Realtors,  Bridgestone Americas, Coldwell Banker Weir Manuel,  Keith and Mary Kay Crain, Higbie Maxon Agney, La Londe Jewelers, Robert Loomis & Associates, Pointe Capital Management, Ronald McDonald House Detroit and Warner Norcross + Judd.

Our In-kind sponsors provided the extras that make this event so special — they are Dirty Dog Jazz Café, Eye Candy Photo, National Coney Island, OPTIMideas, Sir Speedy Print Signs Marketing, Wahl Tents, and Woods Wholesale Wine.

Special thanks to our friends at the Grosse Pointe News, which served as our media sponsor and once again organized the full-filled Scavenger Hunt that is a highlight of the street fair.

We were delighted to have the restaurants from the Hill district again serve as our Pit Stop Sponsors and put on a gourmet feast: The Bronze Door, Café Nini, Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe, Luxe Bar and Grill, Jumps and Fresh Farms Market.  Additional thanks to Morning Glory for the delightful Racing For Kids cookies.
